Arno De Planta is one of the two grinders on board — the engine room of the F50. Every movement of the wing and the foils is driven by hydraulic pressure, and that pressure comes from the grinders' raw physical output, sustained through races where heart rates sit near maximum from start to finish.
De Planta came up through the fiercely competitive Lake Geneva circuits, racing foiling multihulls with Team Tilt — the same programme that produced several of his teammates. He combines that boat-handling background with the physical conditioning the grinder role demands.
